There will be no loading of craft on the barge on Saturday morning. All craft must be loaded on Friday afternoon between 2.30 and 5pm. Address listed below.

Things are gearing up for The Doctor this weekend. As you can see from below the wind is starting to crank it up also. Judging by the entry list this will be the biggest open ocean race ever held in Australia. Around 300 are expected to be on the line at Rottnest including some of the world’s best aquatic athletes.

When you look at who’s starting, if you currently have the ability to win a big downwind race you will be in Perth this weekend.

PRE-RACE INFO

SKIs to Rottnest

Important: For those that are hiring skis if you are not arriving in Perth until Friday your ski will be at Rottnest.

For those hiring/borrowing skis from Oceanpaddler  for the event, all  these boats will have to travel by the barge and will have to be at the barge by 2.30pm on Friday. The last trailer will leave Sorrento at 11.30am on Friday to go to the barge for those hiring craft, so if you want to paddle please do it early.

All other craft we will also need at the barge around this time.  We will be loading until 5pm.

For skis and OC1s all rudders must be removed prior to loading.

Loading all craft on Friday 21st January 2.30pm to 5pm. NO LOADING ON SATURDAY MORNING. IT MUST BE DONE ON FRIDAY.

INFORMATION HAPPY HOUR 5-6pm Friday 21st

We will be conducting an info happy hour at Sorrento SLSC immediately prior to briefing.  This will be your chance to get some information from some of the very best on how to prepare for the race and what to expect. We will have a panel from a variety of backgrounds that we will interview.

RACE BRIEFING 6PM FRIDAY 21ST

This is compulsory for all competitors it will be held at Sorrento SLSC food and drinks will be available.

Registration opens from 6pm till 8pm.

BEFORE GOING TO ROTTNEST

Make sure you have your

  • PFD
  • Leash
  • Flare
  • Timing Chip
  • Rudder  for  your ski
  • Paddle
  • Fluids for the race (you can purchase drinks at Rottnest)

GETTING TO ROTTNEST

Be sure to book your Ferry ride over to Rottnest. Rottnest Fast Ferries departs Hillary ‘s Marina at 8.00am and 10.30am. They are offering our competitors special rates. Click here for more info.

ON ROTTNEST

The barge will be unloading the craft at the Main Jetty so when you arrive at Rottnest your craft will be there. Any help in the unload will be greatly appreciated. You can replace your rudders at the Main Jetty and paddle over (south) to the Army Jetty.

PRE-RACE BRIEFING

SUPs and Paddleboards will take place a 12.30pm at the Army Jetty on Rottnest

All other craft 1.30pm at the Army Jetty

THE RACE

The race will start immediately in front of the Army Jetty (same as previous years). The course will pass to the South of both Phillip Rock and Fairway Buoy. After rounding the fairway buoy it will be a direct line to Sorrento Beach. The details of the finish will be explained at the briefing.

START TIMES (3 waves)(dependent on shipping movements)

All others   2pm

FINISH

Sorrento Beach from 3.30pm.
