A Shaw and Partners WA Race Week Event
Introducing a brand-new addition to the Shaw and Partners WA Race Week: the Shaw and Partners Downwind International with $30,000 in Cash and Prizes up for grabs.
For the first time ever we will see a dedicated event for prone paddleboards and double surf skis showcasing these two disciplines. The race will take advantage of Perth’s world-renowned sea breezes and downwind conditions. The event offers a fast, fun, and challenging race along the stunning WA coastline on the afternoon of Sunday 23rd November.
Prone athletes can compete on either 12ft or 10’6 SLSA spec prone paddleboards, while double surf ski teams can enter in men’s, women’s, mixed, SLSA spec ski and combined age categories, offering a division for every pairing.
*Please note that this race is not included in the Shaw and Partners WA Race Week Point Score.

The Course
Start: City Beach
Finish: Sorrento Beach
Distance: 12km
The course will stay within 200m of the beach and will be marked by a buoy at Trigg which competitors must pass to the right of.
Categories
Age Category is based on your age as of 31st December 2025.
Prone Paddleboard Categories
Boards can be up to and including 12’ft.
- Open Male
- Open Female
- 23yrs & under Male
- 23yrs & under Female
- 40yrs & over Male
- 40yrs & over Female
- SLSA 10’6 Spec board Open Male
- SLSA 10’6 Spec board Open Female
- SLSA 10’6 Spec board 23yrs & under Male
- SLSA 10’6 Spec board 23yrs & under Female
For prize giving – Open Male and Open Female categories includes everyone in that gender, across all board types. For example, if an 23yrs & over Female is 1st across the line in the females, she will be awarded 1st place in the Open Female category. Likewise a SLSA Spec board female or male competitor, of any age can win the Open category in their gender.
Double Surf Ski Categories
- Open Male (includes all male doubles)
- Open Female (includes all female doubles)
- Open Mixed (includes all mixed doubles)
- 100yrs & over combined age, any gender
- 40yrs & under combined age, any gender
- SLSA Spec Ski Male
- SLSA Spec Ski Female
- SLSA Spec Ski Mixed
For prize giving – Open teams include all age and SLSA spec ski categories applicable to their gender. For example, if a 100yrs & over combined age category all male team is the first all male team across the line, they will win the Open Male category and be eligible for that prize. Likewise if a SLSA Spec Ski mixed team is the first mixed team across the line they will win the Open Mixed category and be eligible for that prize.
Important note on Categories
There must be at least 5 competitors in your category to be eligible for prize money and prizes. Where there are less than 5, those competitors will be moved to the Open category.
