The Muscle Milk Australian Ocean Racing Series has taken a major step forward this season with the signing of Epic Kayaks as a sponsor of the series and more notably, The Doctor.
Epic and Fenn are the two biggest players in the Surfski market in Australia and around the globe. With the two biggest brands involved then the series can do nothing but move forward and grow over the next few years.
Dean Gardiner who started the ocean paddling series in Australia with his company Oceanpaddler would like to see all the brands get behind the sport in Australia.
“When I started the sport here in Australia in late 2001 we were only the ones bringing in the ocean racing style of surf skis. Since then the sport has blossomed and more brands have come in and we still have more skis going out each year than the previous year,” said Gardiner.
“There is room for a number of brands to be involved in the sport but only a few have really put serious weight behind it. It’s great to have Epic working with us, along with Fenn you are probably going to see around ninety percent of the surfski population in Australia on one of these two skis”.
The added bonus of having the two biggest brands involved is that each will make sure their top paddlers are on the line especially at events like The Doctor.
“When you have all the good guys on the line it really makes the event interesting”. “The Doctor is the biggest Surf ski event in the World today and attracts the best paddlers from around the globe”. “Traditionally, with the exception of a couple of years, it has been a Fenn or an Epic ski that has won the event,” said Gardiner.
The Muscle Milk Australian Ocean Racing Series will feature twelve events over the summer culminating with the Bridge to Beach at the end of February 2016.
The series is open to all paddle craft including surf skis, SUP, Paddleboards, sea kayaks and outriggers.
