August 22, 2023THE CHUCKY 2023 – EVENT DAY INFORMATION
September 1, 2023FEATURED WORK OF ADD-STYLE AT PRO-KAYAKS MATT BLUNDELL'S HOME & PROUD SPONSOR OF THE CHUCKY
Matty Blundell and his wife Jess wanted to stay close to the ocean and to Narrabeen Lake where Matt runs Prokayaks. With three growing daughters they needed more and better-designed spaces to live the Northern Beaches lifestyle we all love. They considered moving, but when Add-Style showed them how they could enlarge and improve what they had they realised that was the way to go!
Cameron White, Add-Style’s Senior designer, developed the design with Matt and Jess, trying different room arrangements, adding a Living Room with a view upstairs, adding a cathedral ceiling and a balcony to the Main Bedroom suite. At the same time Add-Style developed the costings so Matt and Jess had a good idea as to what the cost would be. They were keen to keep the costs under control and to have no surprises or blowouts. This was achieved.
Add-Style got the approval and construction was soon under way. Matt, Jess and the family lived in the house throughout the upstairs addition. Oldest daughter Liberty just had to move into the backroom when her bedroom was required to build the stairs. She felt a bit lonely out there but knew she was going to benefit by getting a large new bedroom, a bit of privacy and a lot more storage. Matt said Shane the foreman was efficient and easy to talk to.
When the upstairs addition by Add-Style was complete the Blundell’s were able to move upstairs so that the downstairs re-modelling could happen. This work was done by another esteemed paddler and builder, Timmy Jacobs, who opened up the downstairs lounge area which had been designed and structured by Add-Style. Other high profile paddlers, Toby Hogbin and Jason Hewlett were engaged to do further finishing off work downstairs.
The Northern Beaches lifestyle includes a lot of paddling. Matt and his eldest daughter Liberty paddle together in a double at many paddling events. But the new Living Room upstairs is where they all land up together at night to watch TV. Liberty says it’s the cosy place in the home. They can now have larger family events in the enlarged Living Room downstairs. All the family now have enough space and the extra family room allows for a bit of separation even when friends and family are over.
Matt and Jess say they wouldn’t change anything and they would and have recommended Add-Style to their friends.
The Chucky is proudly sponsored by Add-Style Home Additions. A local Northern Beaches business owned by our paddling friend Tim Hookins.
IN MEMORY OF CHARLES STEWART
‘The Chucky’ is named after TV Producer and good friend to Ocean Paddling, Charles Stewart.
Charles passed away in January 2016 from a heart attack after finishing an Ocean Paddling session. Charles was instrumental in bringing sports like ours to the public through TV productions via The Wide World of Sports where he worked in the early days, through to coverage of trips like Ningaloo Dreaming and Hamilton Island.
Oceanpaddler’s Dean Gardiner was very close to Charles.
“I first met Chucky in 1990. He was covering The Molokai Ski Race for Channel Nine and Wide World of Sports. Grant Kenny won it that year and I finished third and the coverage the event got was unbelievable especially when you compare it to the little coverage we get now”.
“Charles and I have been involved in many projects since which all involved Ocean Paddling, these include filming the King of the Harbour
and Palm to Pines in the mid nineties, Ningaloo Dreaming, filming of the Trip of a Lifetimes I used to run and our Hamilton Island Trips.”
“He loved the sport he loved the people in it
and gave the profile of the sport a huge boost through his ability to create something special out of something we do everyday and take for granted” Said Gardiner.
The event will be held from Fishermans Beach, Long Reef on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Click on the event Information tab for further details.
