Shaw and Partners North Bondi Surf Ski Classic

Race #2 of the Shaw and Partners Australian Ocean Racing Series.

Welcome to the inaugural Shaw and Partners North Bondi Surf Ski Classic!

The North Bondi Surf Ski Classic came about through a discussion between event sponsors, Shaw and Partners, Jimmy Walker from North Bondi Surf Club and Dean Gardiner from Oceanpaddler. All three decided that the Northern Beaches has long been the hub of Ocean Paddling in Sydney and we were well and truly due for a big event in the Eastern Suburbs. While short in comparison to many of the other races in the series, this event promises to attract the very best from Ocean Paddling and Lifesaving Sports.
Registrations will take place at North Bondi SLSC from 6am. This will allow you to drop your ski off at the start at Watsons Bay then head to the surf club to register and collect your timing chip. You can then either car shuffle or uber/taxi back to the start at Watsons Bay.

One lucky competitor will win a free trip to Hawaii (flights for 1 person) which can be used to compete at Molokai or for any occasion. This will be a lucky draw drawn at the presentations. You must be there to win!
***Presentations and BBQ at North Bondi SLSC
After the race enjoy a free BBQ and soft drink supplied by North Bondi SLSC. Sit back and relax on the balcony of the surf club with your padding buddies, friends and family. Bar will be open.
Event Times
- 6.00am – Registration opens at North Bondi SLSC in club house
- 7.30am – Registration closes
- 7.45am – Briefing at Watson Bay
- 8.00am – RACE STARTS – There will be 3 Waves
- Wave 1: SUPs and Prones
- Wave 2: Women Surf Ski and OC1
- Wave 3: Men Surf Ski and all Double craft
- After Race – Presentations will follow immediately after the event at North Bondi SLSC along with a free BBQ.
Course
The race will start in the protected waters of Sydney Harbour near Camp Cove (which is a short paddle out from Watsons Bay). Paddlers will head North initially, rounding South Head and then heading South along the cliff face to Bondi Beach. The finish will be a short run up the finish shute which will be immediately (or as close as we can get it) in front of North Bondi Surf Club which as the name suggests is at the Northern end of Bondi Beach. Even though a small swell is forecast, expect consistant backwash on this course due to the rocks and cliff.
The finish will be a run up the beach over the blue timing mat at North Bondi Beach.
Do not start this race if you cannot get back onto your craft or have not practised getting back on your craft.

Please ensure you are familiar with the Rules and Equipment for the event as outlined here. Remember Lifejackets (hi-vis / brightly coloured) and leashes.
