2021 Manly Wharf Bridge to Beach sponsored by Investec
**Event Information as at 10am Saturday 20th March.
Due to the moderate to strong North East wind and 2.5 meter plus the swell forecast for Sunday we have decided to run the Investec Manly Wharf Bridge to Beach on the contingency course.
Please see the details below with regards to start times and location.
THE COURSE
The course map is detailed below and is a triangular course (clockwise direction) starting and finishing at Manly Wharf.
***SUPs and Prones: 2 laps (8k approx)
***Rest of the field: 3 laps (11.5k approx)
The start will be from 8.30am with 4 start waves as outlined below.
The finish will be as per previous years with a short run up the beach to finish at the eastern end near The Bavarian. You must run over the blue mat then line up in finish order so we can collect your timing chip and record your race number (used for back up timing).
Please follow the direction of safety and official boats at all times.
REGISTRATIONS
11.00am – 4.00pm on Saturday at Oceanpaddler Warehouse – Unit 12, 410 Pittwater Rd, North Manly.
6.30 – 8.00am on Sunday at Manly Wharf
*** IMPORTANT SAFETY MESSAGE – If you register on Saturday then decide not to race on Sunday morning you must TEXT the event number 0422 554 965 to be withdrawn from the event. This is extremely important so we know exactly who is on the water racing.
RACE BRIEFING – 8.00am
Race briefing at Manly Wharf. Please ensure you listen to the final instructions.
EVENT START TIMES from 8.30am
There will be four (4) start waves starting from 8.30am. Please listen to final instructions at race briefing. Please ensure you know what start wave you are in.
Wave 1: 8.30am – Women Single Surf Skis
Wave 2: 8.32am – Men Single Surf Skis
Wave 3: 8.34am – All genders of OC1s, Plastics, Sea Kayaks, Double Skis, Double Plastics, OC2
Wave 4: 8.40am – SUPs and Prones
Do not break the start or you will be disqualified. If you do not think you are a top contender please do not position yourself on the front line.
Please follow the direction of safety and official boats at all times.
IMPORTANT COMPETITOR INFORMATION
*** The event number for race day is the Oceanpaddler mobile 0422 554 965. We strongly advise that you take your mobile phone with this number in it.
*** Make sure you wear your timing chip on your ANKLE to ensure it registers when you go over the mat.
***You need to carry your own water bottle and water. Due to Covid we will not be supplying any water or fruit after the event.
***Make sure you have the required safety equipment as outlined below and on the website. Random checks will take place.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
Lifejacket – All competitors must wear an approved minimum Level 50 Lifejacket. Your lifejacket must be HI-VIS or brightly coloured for visibility. No black or dull colour lifejackets will be permitted. An approved Level 50S Lifejacket can only be worn with a Hi-Vis shirt over the top. (Prone Paddleboard competitors only are permitted to wear an approved Level 100/150 Inflatable bum bag Lifejacket)
Safety Leash – These are required by competitors to maintain contact with their craft, which can be particularly difficult during high winds, or if someone should fall from their craft. (Coastal rowers and sea kayaks are exempt).
Electronic Timing Chip – Provided at registration
Mobile Phone highly recommended – In case you pull out and need to call the race officials to be withdrawn from the event (call the event number 0422 554 965)
PULL OUTS
If you pull out of the event after the start or are withdrawn from the event you will need to come and see us at the finish line to return your timing chip and let us know.
If you register and collect your timing chip on Saturday then decide not to race you must send a text to the event number 0422 554 965.
PRESENTATIONS
Pending weather conditions presentations will take place outside The Bavarian after the event (after the last paddlers have finished). We encourage competitors to grab a drink or a bite to eat from The Bavarian.
Medals will be awarded to the top 3 category winners.
