For the upcoming Charles Stewart Memorial Cup padding event Oceanpaddler will be trialling a new competitor tracking app SafeTrx. The app will allow the event organiser and spectators to track competitors live GPS location during the event via the web. SafeTrx has recently been used for paddling events in South Africa, Ireland, the UK and Holland with great success. SafeTrx is a Smartphone App for both Android & Apple iOS devices that allows you to have your journey recorded and monitored if needed by the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard 24 hours per day, every day of the year.
SafeTrx can also be used anytime you set off for a training session. Your trip can be shared with your friends or family so they know your exact GPS location at all times. The user can also activate a ‘distress call’ or ‘request for assistance’ which communicates with the Australian Coast Guard and emergency services.

Please download the SafeTrx app, register an account and become familiar with how the app works during training. For paddling, we recommend using the TRACK ONLY mode and sharing it with a friend or family member before you head out for a paddle. “Track Only” trips still record your trip on the handset (and to your trip history on the boaters website) and allows you to review and replay it later. Unlike “sail plan” trips, no ETA is provided and Coast Guard do not monitor your trip.

Charles Stewart Memorial Cup Event Tracking Instructions
For the event, The SafeTrx Flotilla Event tracking feature will be used. If you are already using SafeTrx you will need to update the app to the latest version.
SafeTrx has put together a PADDLER GUIDE with instructions that will assist in getting ready for the race. The event code is CSMC.
