Shaw and Partners AORS – Race Two
Dean’s Race Report
Bondi really turned it on for race two of the Shaw and Partners AORS. In what was a relatively short race in ocean racing terms, a huge field hooked into the gentle North West Runs that were sliding along arguably one of Australia’s most scenic courses. The steep cliffs created plenty of movement and residual swell from the previous nights North East wind put just enough texture on the water to catch bumps.
The top end was a star studded affair and it showed in the results with very tight finishes in both men’s and women’s.
The ladies saw Danielle Mackenzie notch up her first win of the series against last years Doctor winner Georgia Laird and the tenacious Jemma Smith. Both Mackenzie and Laird had raced off the back of a gruelling Coolongatta Gold the weekend before. The men’s was a tight battle with Jackosn Collins and Tassies Tom Norton. Like two weeks before at The Chucky against Cory Hill, Collins put in a powerful burst in the closing stages to create a gap over Norton and take his second win in the series.

There can be no denying that this was a fast, tough race but very fun race.
The biggest winner on the day was Jules Hall who won a trip to Hawaii in the lucky draw. The talk is he will be competing in next year’s Molokai Race and he claims that whatever time Tommy Woodriff did for Molo, he will be ten minutes quicker.
North Bondi Surf Club put on an excellent spread post events which really added the icing to what was a fantastic ocean racing cake.
Race 3 of the Shaw and Partners AORS will be held in Hobart on November 2nd 2019, it is Australia’s longest running endurance event. The Surf Safari
